Inspired by visits to Firle House, Lewes, Sussex, Ravilious painted several exceptional watercolours of greenhouses (see the companion picture: Cucumber House).
There’s a gentle beauty to the garlanded tomato vines and neat rows of cyclamen – a portrayal which pays tribute to a justly proud gardener.
