Inspired by visits to Firle House, Lewes, Sussex, Ravilious painted several exceptional watercolours of greenhouses (see the companion picture: The Greenhouse).
There’s a gentle beauty to this print, and one year after it was painted – and in tribute to the young Ravilious – it was bought by the Principle of the Royal College of Art, Sir William Rothenstien.
