Coryndon was born in Taunton in 1975 and studied at Cardiff Art College from 1994-1997, obtaining a BA in Fine Art. Following an apprenticeship in Paint Finishing (1998-1999), Sophie joined the Lucy B Campbell Gallery in 2000. She lives with her husband and two children in East Sussex.
My Favourites was Coryndon’s first original screenprint, handmade in twenty colours on 410gsm Somerset Satin paper. The Showtime tulips were inspired by her involvement with the English Tulip Society and handmade in twelve colours, on 280g Somerset Velvet paper. These were followed by Double Top, handmade in 20 colours, Triumphator, in 20 colours, and most recently Tree Poppy made in 22 colours, all on 410gsm Somerset Velvet paper.
Sophie’s love of new techniques and mediums also led her to work with Artizan Editions of Hove, to create original handmade screenprints.
Coryndon’s floral paintings, as she puts it on her website, are ‘more triffid than tea-rose’, with an otherworldy charge and intensity that constantly teeters into an almost menacing lusciousness.
