Frames

We have an enormous selection of framing available. This is because we specialize in hand finishes, which means we buy in raw wood mouldings and then once they have been cut to size and joined, the frames are prepared and sanded before the required finish is applied.

We can stain the wood to match in with other furniture or to tie in with the artwork. It will then be given a wax to seal it and then buffed to a high shine. Many of our frames are painted, (we use hand made, chalk based paints as these have a lovely soft look and texture). Once four or more coats have been applied and each sanded smooth, we then varnish the frame to seal it. A real labour of love, but well worth the effort! Many of the samples we have in the shop are also gilded either completely or partially. Depending on where a moulding is gilded or silvered we can give it a classic, even antiqued look or bring it right up to date.

We very often combine two or more mouldings to create a new shape, to give extra width or depth or purely for a surprising juxtaposition of contrasting styles.
