 Meet our team.
Our combined experience and knowledge means we can make the perfect frame for you.
Our philosophy
There really are no rules in the choice of a frame, we all have such varied taste and style, but we always recommend a combination that will do the absolute best by the work. Choosing a mount of the highest quality board that will project the image and take nothing away from it; giving the artwork space, both in terms of positioning within the frame, and away from the glass. These observations about scale and proportions we have come to accept as successful formulas, but we try not to get stuck in any fashion or groove where it comes to style, as each piece is unique and demands fresh consideration.
There are specific requirements with each framing job, for example a three dimensional object will need a deep moulding to space it away from the glass but we try not to allow this to limit our approach to the way it looks. It might need to be robust, but that doesn't mean it can't be decorative, there are always many ways to approach each individual article.
We love it when a customer has a clear idea of how they picture the finished piece, and we will then work with them to incorporate all the elements of design with practicality. Equally it is an exciting challenge when we are asked to come up with our own ideas for a piece of artwork, there are so many possibilities, and this is the truly creative aspect of our work that we all love; indeed, our reputation is built on our feeling for the visual concept and then its creation.
Our team
We have always felt that the whole team need be familiar with all aspects of each stage of the framing process, at the point of taking in work it is imperative that knowledge of construction and materials and a good knowledge of the treatment of each genre of artwork are necessary to give helpful advice. So it is extremely important that we all have experience in the shop and workshop, as this way of working links all the processes and keeps us in close communication with each other.
Heading the team in our workshop is, Stephen King. Formerly trained in the classic cabinet making craft, Stephen served a four year apprenticeship in a large high class joinery company, which had long-term contracts and fine skills such as veneering, laminating and spraying.
Before becoming absorbed into the world of framing, Stephen expanded his abilities by building everything from super yachts to skate boards ramps, with the occasional kitchen thrown in for good measure! All these skills when applied to the seemingly simple art of framing, mean that, in terms of construction, particularly with large scale frames, box frames or anything demanding specialist treatment we have real leading edge. If you want really beautifully made frames that will become future heir looms, we have the imagination and skills to make them for you.
